So you want to get involved? Great! Let’s get you started. Are you…
Currently studying at Southampton Solent University?
A member of Solent Students’ Union?
Keen to make some telly?
If you answered Yes to all of those questions then we’re perfect for each other… Ahem.
At the moment we’re currently calling a wrap on these past twelve months, but as September draws nearer we’ll soon have details on how you can get involved for the coming academic year. All of the details will be posted on our site, so keep an eye out! You can also check us out on Facebook and Twitter as we’ll post any news there too.
Additionally, if you’re starting your first year of study at Solent this year we can subscribe you to our Newsletter which will tell you where and when to see us during Freshers’ Fair. Just send an email to and we’ll subscribe you for free.
We hope to see you in September!

Have you ever fancied presenting your own TV show? What about producing your own series? Being a member of SonarTV gives you the ability to be involved with projects, events and to find the achieve your ideas. Unlike other production facilities at Solent, with SonarTV you have a free pass to be as imaginative, creative and outrageous as you’d like whilst learning and developing skills, and gaining work experience in television production. On top of that we’re the only outlet in the university affiliated with NaSTA, the National Student Television Association, and can enter your hard work into their annual national awards.

Being a member of SonarTV gives your access to our members-only socials and events. Never have you had a better way to meet other like-minded media folk. We regularly hold all sorts of meet ups and get togethers, and as you become more involved your fellow society members will soon feel like a second family. We’re here to support all of our members, and welcome anyone who wishes to be involved with the station.

Like all societies within Solent Students’ Union we are required to charge a membership fee for our society. At the moment our membership fee is £10. This is a price that we set at the beginning of each year to ensure that the society has a budget to purchase and maintain equipment, can afford affiliation with groups like NaSTA, and can pay for the cost of having simple things like a functional website. As a not-for-profit and part of Solent Students’ Union, all of our funds are spent on benefiting the society and its members. So consider your membership fee a contribution towards making your experience with SonarTV the best that it can be!
